Life's priorities

Professor of Philosophy comes into the audience and lay out on the table a few different things.
When lectures begin, he silently takes a large, empty jar and fills it with large stones.
Then asks:
- Was this jar full?
- Yes! - Agree to the students.
Then the professor picked up a box with small pebbles and poured it into the same jar. He chatted the little jar. Pebbles, of course, filled the open areas between the stones.
He again asked the students:
- Was this jar full?
They laughed and agreed that the jar was full.
Then, the professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand fills the remaining space.
Once again, the professor asked the students if the jar was full? Answer: Yes, and this time unequivocally, it was full.
Then from under the table he had pulled out two cans of beer and poured them into the jar. The students laughed.
- Now, - the professor said, - I want you to understand it is your life. Stones is an important things - your family, your friends, your health, your children. If everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. Pebbles is the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else - it's just little things in life. If you pour the sand into the jar at first, there is no place for the pebbles. The same means for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you never find a place for things that are important to you. Pay attention to things that are critical to your happiness.
Take care, first about the rocks, it really matters. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.
Then a student raised his hand and asked the professor:
- How was important the beer?
The professor smiled.
- I'm glad you asked me about it. I did it just to prove to you that, no matter how your life is busy, there is always place for a couple of beers.

Happiness consists of little things available to everyone. You just need to learn to notice them.

Lost in translation

You know, that Mamihlapinatapai (sometimes spelled mamihlapinatapei) is a word from the Yaghan language of Tierra del Fuego, listed in The Guinness Book of World Records as the "most succinct word", and is considered one of the hardest words to translate. It refers to "a look shared by two people, each wishing that the other would initiate something that they both desire but which neither wants to [initiate]."

Thoughts lead on to purposes; purposes go forth in action; actions form habits; habits decide character; and character fixes our destiny.

Веселый немецкий язык или одна занимательная история из жизни немцев.

Готтентоты (по-немецки: "хотгентотен"), как известно, ловят в пустынях кенгуру (по-немецки: "бейтельратте" - сумчатая крыса). Они обычно сажают их в клетки ("коттэр", снабженные решетчатыми крышками ("латтенгиттер") для защиты от непогоды ("веттер").
Благодаря замечательным правилам немецкой грамматики все это вместе - кенгуру и клетки - получает довольно удобное название: "Латтергиттерветтеркоттэрбельтельратте".
Однажды в тех местах, в городе Шраттертроттэле, был схвачен негодяй, убивший готтентотку, мать двоих детей. Такая женщина по-немецки должна быть названа "хоттентотен-муттэр", а ее убийца сейчас же получил в устах граждан имя "шраттертроттэльхоттентотенмуттэрраттэнтэтэр", т.к. убийца по-немецки - "аттэнтэтэр".
Преступника поймали и за неимением других помещений посадили в одну из клеток для кенгуру, о которых выше было сказано.
Он бежал, но снова был изловлен. Счастливый своей удачей, негрохотник быстро явился к старшине племени.
- Я поймал  этого... Бейтельратте! Кенгуру! - в волнении вскричал он.
- Кенгуру? Какого? - сердито спросил начальник.
- Как  какого? Этого самого! Ляттенгиттерветтеркотгэрбейтельратте.
-Яснее! Таких у нас много... непонятно чему ты так радуешься?...
-Ах ты, несчастье какое! - возмутился негр, положил на землю лук и стрелы, набрал в грудь воздуха и выпалил:
- Я поймал шраттертроттэльхоттенттотэнмутгэрраттэнтэтэрляттенгиттерветтеркоттербейтельратте! Вот кого!
Начальник подскочил, будто подброшенный пружиной:
- Так что же ты сразу мне этого не сказал так коротко и ясно, как сейчас?!

Так что давайте, друзья мои, всегда изъясняться коротко и ясно, чтобы окружающие нас сразу же понимали =)
